Tweed ride in Tucson?

I’ve been thinking that it might be cool if Tucson had its own tweed ride, but didn’t know where to start.

What do you think? Should we start one? Should it be associated with the Tuesday Night Community Bike Ride, or should it be its own event?

Where does one even get tweed these days?

Does everything have to be "Tucson" in this town? A real tweed ride would be great. I think we could celebrate an event that wasnt tied to panchos and pinatas without the world ending as we know it.

More possible themes: Serapes and Shorts Panchos and Pinatas Boots, Bottoms, and Bikes Clunkers and Cowbells However, the tweed ride sounds great. But I don't know whether it's "Tucson."

I like the idea of a Doc Holiday/Tombstone ride. Adding a little southwest flair to make it our own.

Scott, I like your idea, too. What about a Rodeo Ride? Bikes could be decorated to look like horses, and cows, that would be hilarious! Or you what about copy-catting this cool rattlesnake that Austin Bike Zoo built? A new fundraiser for BICAS, perhaps? http://www.austinbikezoo.org/

I'm still laughing about Ignacio's question. I don't know how these tweed rides got started aroung the states, but it amuses me. Is it because tweed suits were the norm when bikes became popular in the lated 1800's? If you are going to start one in Tucson, you better get started soon, or we will be beyond the tweed season. Haunt the used clothing stores for tweed jackets and suits. Y'all come out in your tweed and I'll be there with my camera! ;-D
