Have you logged your trips for Tucson’s Bike Fest yet?
Part of this year’s month-long celebration of all things bicycling is the two-mile challenge.
Data has shown that at least 40 percent of trips are two miles or less and Bike Fest organizers are encouraging people to try to make more of those two-mile trips by bicycle instead.
Of course the trips can be more, but the group is focusing on number of trips, not overall distance.
To encourage people to bike more, not farther, the challenge this year is about total number of trips throughout the month of April.
So far 336 people have recorded 1844 trips, which means on average each cyclist has recorder5.48 trips. What about you? How many have you recorded?
Cyclists become eligible to win prizes based on how many trips they have recorded.
- At 15 trips cyclists can win bells, lights and Cyclovia Tucson shirts.
- At 20 trips cyclists can win handlebar bags, $50 REI gift certificates, bike tune-ups from Oro Valley Bicycles or a membership to Living Street Alliance.
- At 25 trips cyclists are eligible to win panniers or Timbuk2 bags.
- Finally, at 30 trips cyclists are entered to win a Linus commuter bike.
