Click the image to see a larger version of the poster

Email Jose if you spot his bike.

I had my bike stolen today (8/23/2010)

It is a  gray,Schwinn Sierra Gs with a free radical extension (from xtracycle) it is a brand new bike.

I’m 100% sure the new owner has a mismatched seat on it because I had the original removed to discourage the robbers to steal it…did not work!

Serial No: SNHUA O9D22490 and/or SNHUAO9D13764 (we bought two bikes and we don’t know which one is the one stolen)

Check out Tucson Velo’s guide to preventing bike theft and the steps to take to try to recover it if it is stolen.

Stolen bike: 58cm Vitus

Yet another stolen bike. If you see this bike, email Mark.

I have lost a dear friend of mine, after leaving it locked to a metal
pole behind a club I went to on Saturday. Initial review of Craigslist
hasn’t shown anything yet. But my bicycle was a Red Vitus 979, 58 cm,
I’m 5’10″ and it was a bit too tall for me. The frame was red with
matching red rims and I really loved that bike. It had almost entirely
all Simano 600 components except for one piece that I can use to
identify it.

The picture is attached as a reference, my bike had white lettering on
the down tube not the top tube, and had brand new red and black bar
tape.

Thanks for the help and may karma be served to bike thieves.

Stolen bike: Burgundy cruiser and child trailer

This depressing email came my way last night. If you see the bike or trailer, email Yvonne.

Someone stole my bike and double-seat kid-trailer off our front porch on 1st St and Bean last night Saturday between 10pm and 2am. (I knew it would happen eventually because I did not always lock it up. Well, it happened, despite my big windows facing the porch and lots of light.)

Bike: Burgundy-colored cruiser bike with fat-”white-wall” tires, tear on black seat cushion, forgot the brand I think Raleigh? –
trailer was attached, two-seater, black straps, red, purple and yellow with plastic and mesh and plastic cover for wind-shield. The trailer converts to a stroller so it had the big handlebar but not the third wheel attached.

I had bought them (separately) used about a year ago, but they were in great condition and I used them a lot. I have four boys, the youngest are 3 and 1, and they rode in that trailer a lot.

The thieves threw out the two helmets on the sidewalk in front of our house.

Only means of transportation (especially with the transit strike!) so am offering a cash reward.

Email Kate if you see it.

Stolen Bike: Single speed with baby seat

The bike now has neon green bar tape and a baby seat.

I woke up on 07/10/2010 to find my 2006 SE Lager single speed missing from my backyard.

My wife’s cruiser was untouched.

The bike has upside down chopped road bars with neon green bar tape. It has a black ritchey stem. The rear wheel has a flip flop hub currently with the freewheel on the chain side of the bicycle. It has a lame Giant Bikes seat that still bares the Giant logo. It has a New Belgium brewery sticker on the head tube.

The bike had a generic gray bell baby seat on it. My two year old cried when she found out “her bike” was stolen.

The bike is unique(hodgepodge) but its all i could afford and was used multiple times a week for commuting and recreation rides with my little girl.

I would like my bike back. If you know anything please email me.

Surly Long Haul Trucker stolen in April returned to owner in May

Tim Arnold with his returned Surly Long Haul Trucker.

Tim Arnold’s Surly Long Haul Trucker was stolen from his backyard on April 11 and after more than a month and no information about his bike, Arnold figured it was time for a new one.

Then he got a call from Ordinary Bike Shop saying they had his bike.

“Immediately when I saw it at Ordinary I thought, “Well that’s not my bike,” Arnold said.

The wheels and pedals were replaced with lower quality ones, the front rack, seat post and seat were gone and the decals had all been removed. The handlebars were still there, but the bar tape had been removed. There was one addition though.

The handlebars were intact, but the bar tape was removed

“It gained a kickstand,” Arnold said. “It did not have a kickstand before, now it does, so that was nice.”

When his bike was stolen, Arnold quickly began getting the word out — including having it posted on Tucson Velo and other sites like StolenBicycleRegistry.com and TotalBikes.com. Those postings are a major reason he has his bike today.

According to BICAS shop coordinator Troy Neiman, a man brought the bike to BICAS to get a new seat put on. BICAS employee Zach Lihatsh, who has left Tucson for the summer, started helping the person who brought the bike. Lihatsh has his own Long Haul Trucker stolen last year began to wonder if it was a stolen bike.

“It was obvious he didn’t know what it was or have any appreciation for it, which makes you wonder how that person came about that bike,” Neiman said.

Zach grabbed the serial number and searched the Internet, which returned several sites about the stolen bike.

“I took the guy [upstairs] and talked to the guy,” Neiman said. “I told him the bike was reported stolen. He was actually really cool about it.”

Neiman said it didn’t seem like he stole the bike.

“I don’t have the feeling he stole it,” Neiman said. “His story was he had just gotten out of jail and his friend let him borrow this bike as long as he put a seat on it. When we told him the bike was stolen he was like, ‘Ohh man, that is what I get for having my buddy help me out.’”

Arnold's Surly gained this kickstand, but lost a seat and seat post.

Many of the parts were taken off, but someone added a kickstand

Neiman said he left the bike and Lihatsh called Ordinary to see if the bike had been purchased there. Ordinary Bike Shop owner David Tang said they keep a record of every bike they sell with the serial number and Arnold did buy the bike from them several years ago.

Ordinary picked up the bike and called Arnold on May 18 to let him know they had his bike.

Neiman said BICAS employees look out for stolen bikes, but it isn’t always easy to figure out if a bike is stolen.

“We obviously discourage bike theft,” Neiman said. “We don’t want people stealing bikes and bringing them down here to fix up. Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is not. It is certainly something we keep our eye out for.”

Stolen bike: 1985 Peugeot

I received an email from a reader today about his stolen bike. Here are the details:

It was stolen today (May 13), during the day, from the east side of the AME building at the U of A. It is a Peugeot (1985, I think). It is mostly the same bike as the attachment except the handlebars; I had straight handlebars with white cork/tape. Also, yellow bottle cage and brand new (as in, I bought yesterday) red-black cst tires. Please feel free to share my email address: guven@email.arizona.edu

Keep an eye out for this bike.
