The Tucson-Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for bicycle commuter, advocate and bike friendly business of the year awards.

The nominations are open until March 27 and should include a few paragraphs about why your nomination is deserving of the award and include their contact information.

The awards will be announced at the Pedal the Pueblo kickoff event, (formerly known as bike to work week).

Here’s a little info about the awards:

The Bicycling Advocate of the Year award will be presented to an individual, organization or agency that has worked diligently and effectively over the past year (or years) to promote bicycling as a means of transportation and/or recreation in Eastern Pima County.

Previous winners include: Steve Kozachik (2012), Dave Burnham and Ed Irwin (2011), Diahn Swartz and Ari Shapiro (2010).

The Bicycle Commuter of the Year award will be presented to an individual who resides in Eastern Pima County whose determination and dedication to using the bicycle as a means of transportation serves as a role model and inspiration for others in the community.

Previous winners include: Chuck Hill (2012), Chuck Huckelberry and yours truly, (2011), Nanette Slusser and BICAS, (2010).

The Bicycle Friendly Business of the Year award will be presented to a business or organization based in Eastern Pima County that has made extraordinary efforts to make their business more friendly for those customers arriving by bicycle, or has made special efforts to make bicycle commuting easier and more attractive for their employees.

Previous winner: Tucson Highschool (2012, first year)

Correction: Ari Shapiro was awarded "Commuter of the Year" and BICAS "Advocate of the Year" in 2010.

 @sluggh Ha! I won in 2011 for advocate of the year, which was an honor, but also uncomfortable because I don't really want to be seen as an advocate.
